It offers all those affected by Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome a means of raising awareness and informing those close to them (family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc.) about the disease. It&#8217;s the ideal opportunity to raise public awareness of this life-changing disease.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">History of World Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s Day<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">World Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s Day was created to raise public awareness of Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s disease. It is celebrated every year on July 23, the birthday of Dr Henrik Sj\u00f6gren, the Swedish ophthalmologist who discovered Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Dr Henrik Sj\u00f6gren was a Swedish ophthalmologist who first identified the disease in 1933. Today, his birthday is celebrated as World Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s Day to help raise awareness of the disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">In 1929, Dr. Sj\u00f6gren met a patient complaining of dry eyes, dry mouth and joint pain.
