It was registered as a charitable organization with the federal government in January 1997 (No. 89059 3734 RR0001).<\/p>\n<p>Sj\u00f6gren Qu\u00e9bec is a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to support and inform people living with Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome (pronounced &#8220;sj\u00f6-gren&#8221;) and their families. This autoimmune disease affects approximately 1% of the general population. Nine out of ten cases affect women-usually around the age of 50.<\/p>\n<p>Serving the entire territory of Quebec, Sj\u00f6gren Quebec is recognized as a national organization by Sant\u00e9 Qu\u00e9bec (the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services).<\/p>\n<p><strong>SJ\u00d6GREN&#8217;S QUEBEC<\/strong> is governed by a volunteer <a href=\"https:\/\/sjogren.ca\/en\/board-of-directors\/\"><strong>Board of Directors <\/strong><\/a>who ensure that its mission is carried out.<\/p>\n<p>Serving the entire province of Quebec, <strong>SJ\u00d6GREN&#8217;S QUEBEC<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Informs the public to promote early detection of the disease, allowing for rapid\u00a0diagnosis and improved treatment;<\/li>\n<li>Develops information and awareness tools;<\/li>\n<li>Provides support services to people affected by the disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Non-profit organization whose primary mission is to support and inform people with Sj\u00f6gren syndrome (pronounced &#8220;SHOW-grins&#8221;) and their loved ones. This chronic autoimmune disease of the immune system affects approximately 1% of the general population. Nine times out of ten, they are women &#8211; generally aged 50.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sjogren.ca\/en\/sjogrens-syndrome\/\"><strong>Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the glands responsible for producing saliva (salivary glands) and tears (lacrimal glands). Although Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome is commonly known as &#8220;dry eyes and dry mouth syndrome,&#8221; it can also affect other organs such as the lungs, kidneys, lymphatic system, and neurological system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To better meet the needs of people affected by Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s, the organization&#8217;s mission is:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support and inform Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome patients and their families.<\/li>\n<li>Raise awareness of Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome among healthcare professionals and the general public.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage and promote medical research into the detection, treatment and support of people with Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome.<\/li>\n<li>Receive donations and organize fund-raising campaigns to raise money for research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To accomplish its mission, the organization has four main objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reach as many people as possible affected by Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome.<\/li>\n<li>Provide reliable information on Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome.<\/li>\n<li>Provide moral support to Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s patients to limit the negative effects of the disease on their daily lives.<\/li>\n<li>Raise funds to develop and offer more services to Sj\u00f6gren&#8217;s syndrome patients and their families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We organize support group meetings and information sessions for our members and their families. These meetingsare held in virtual mode on the Zoom platform.
